I am working on the “Art of Dance” project including the largest pastel painting I’ve attempted so far.
I thought it might be interesting to document the process of the latest dance pastel painting. I started on 24″X36″ Wallis paper and used an acrylic wash over my initial drawing. Now in the process of applying pastels over the under painting. I have never used this process before so here’s hoping it turns out to be a keeper! I’ll post updates later…..
Completely unrelated to dance was a road trip last weekend with my daughter Mara to the Figge Museum in Davenport, IA to see Rose Frantzen’s exhibition “Portrait of Maquoketa” and her 4 hour live demonstration of portrait painting. It was a truly lovely weekend getting to spend time with Mara, driving a beautiful route along the river including stops to see the tundra swans and getting fresh cider and apples before the orchards close for the season. Include inspiring time with Rose Frantzen and her artist husband Charles Morris, discovery of the Figge Museum and delicious meals. We truly had all of the components of a great road trip!
Look like great fun!
How wonderful, Julie! I'm so happy you and Mara could do that together. You both are the best!! Your "Art of Dance" pastels are amazing. You are simply "in your element" my friend! xoxo
